The Mysterious Indian Temple That Holds Trillion Dollars Of Wealth And Treasures

The infamous Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple is an imposing temple with opulent riches under it. Throughout the years, there were attempts to open all the vaults that held some of the greatest treasures since ancient times. There is one vault that remains sealed up to this day and opening the vault will incite the wrath of Gods according to the Travancore royal family.

To justify this belief a strange string of events happened after attempts of prying open the Vault B. In 2011, Sundara Rajan, a former law enforcer brought up the idea to open up the vaults of  Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, months later after he brought the proposal he was struck by an illness and died a few days later. Mr. Rajan's demise is often attributed to his staunch attempt in opening up the vaults.

The Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram is erected in honor of the Hindu Creator God Vishnu. The temple is not only a place of worship but also a structure dedicated to holding the Travancore family wealth. It was built around the 1500s it was since then used to shelter immense wealth from different parts of the globe.

Inside the temple, there are intricate statues of Hindu gods such as Bhudevi, Sridevi, Vishnu, Sri Padmanabha, and Anatha. There are 6 structures in the vaults numbered and categorized from A to F. Vaults A, C, D, E, F were already opened through industrial means, and these vaults sheltered golds, taels, urns, and coins belonging to different nations from the world including Napoleonic era gold coins. There are also reports about the forgotten or hidden vaults G, H that is also said to be unopened just like Vault B. 

Opening the vaults using industrial means such as welding, dynamites and explosives will cause misfortunes as proven by the expeditions of vaults A through F, skipping vault B. Gurus and other Hindus believe that the proper way of opening the vaults is through chanting the Garuda Mantra. Since Garuda and Anantha are rival deities in Hinduism, the Garuda mantra should be used on a door sealed by Naga Paasam Mantra.


An elaborate trap network inside the temple also exists just like people watch in Indiana Jones movies. During the 1930s there are several attempts to obtain the treasures from the vault, these were done by treasure hunters and they brought tales of doom after their botched quests. The most notable would be the mass of writhing snakes guarding the vaults especially the dreaded Vault B or Kallara.

There are also beliefs regarding what lies beyond the Kallara or Vault B. Temple caretakers and other Hindus tried to discover what lies beyond the Vault as a final ditch effort to curb widespread famine and drought. When they tried to open the vault they heard crashing waves of the ocean, the menacing sounds made it clear for these caretakers not to make any attempts in opening the vaults.

The threats of the Vault B does not stop with the sounds of crashing waves and sea of snakes guarding it. There are also tales of the dreaded guardian that lies beyond the Kallara. She is Kanjirottu Yakshi and other consorts with her. Yakshi is an enigmatic figure in Hinduism and a very dangerous entity that anyone who tried to be open it will be a subject to her curses and misfortunes.  

The collective wealth of the Travancore royal family and the stash of gold were carefully guarded beneath the vaults of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple. The mysteries surrounding the misfortunes met by those who open it made it clear that it is not a place that should be looted. Whatever lies beyond Vault B remains a mystery.
